Septic System Repair in the Lehigh Valley, PA
Septic problems don't fix themselves — but most of them are very fixable when caught early. We diagnose and repair septic components across the Lehigh Valley, explain exactly what's wrong in plain language, and quote the repair before we touch a shovel.

Common septic repairs we handle
Baffle and tee replacement
Baffles (or outlet tees) keep floating scum and settled sludge inside the tank instead of flowing out to your drain field. When they corrode or break off — common in older concrete tanks around the Valley — solids escape downstream. Replacing a baffle is a straightforward repair that protects a very expensive drain field.
Effluent pump and alarm issues
Raised systems and mounds rely on a pump to move effluent to the drain field. If your alarm is sounding, the pump may have failed, the float switch may be stuck, or you may have an electrical issue. We troubleshoot pump systems and replace failed components.
Distribution box (D-box) problems
The D-box splits flow evenly between your drain field lines. If it settles or tilts, one line gets overloaded while others sit dry — a classic cause of premature field failure. Releveling or replacing a D-box is far cheaper than a new field.
Broken or root-invaded lines
Clay and older pipe runs are magnets for tree roots, and heavy soil movement can crack lines. We locate the break, excavate precisely, and repair or replace the damaged section.
Tank cracks and deterioration
Concrete tanks can develop cracks over decades; steel tanks eventually corrode. Some cracks can be sealed, but a structurally compromised tank needs replacement — and we'll tell you honestly which one you're looking at.
Repair or replace? An honest framework
This is the question every homeowner with a struggling system asks. Here's how we think about it:
- Repair when: the tank itself is structurally sound, the problem is isolated to one component (baffle, pump, D-box, a section of line), and the drain field still accepts water. Most systems under 25–30 years old with a good maintenance history fall here.
- Consider replacement when: the tank is collapsing or severely deteriorated, the drain field is saturated and won't recover, or you're stacking repair bills on a system that's already past its expected life.
- Get a second opinion when: anyone tells you the whole system must be replaced without showing you why — with the tank open and the evidence in front of you. We'll always show our work.
A note on drain fields specifically: a field that has simply been overloaded by a neglected tank can sometimes recover with rest and proper pumping. A field that's biomat-clogged beyond recovery cannot. Our drain field services page goes deeper on telling the difference.
What a repair visit looks like
- Diagnosis first. We inspect the tank, check sludge levels, look at baffles, test pumps and alarms, and walk the drain field. You'll get a plain-language explanation of what's wrong and what it will take to fix.
- Upfront quote. One price, approved by you, before work begins. If we uncover something unexpected underground, we stop and talk before proceeding.
- The repair. Most component repairs are completed in a single visit. We use quality parts sized correctly for your system.
- Testing and cleanup. We verify flow, test alarms and pumps, backfill neatly, and walk you through what was done and how to prevent a repeat.
What septic repairs cost
Repairs range enormously — a baffle replacement is a few hundred dollars; a new drain field is many thousands. That's exactly why diagnosis matters: guessing wrong is expensive. What we can promise is that you'll know the full cost before we start, and we'll always tell you when a repair doesn't make financial sense.
Routine septic pumping remains the cheapest "repair" of all — many of the failures we fix trace back to years of skipped maintenance.
